Alfredo Gonzalez
On October 6th, 2024, at about 10:54 PM, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division
responded to the Galaxy Towers after receiving a report of fire alarms activated. Once officers arrived on the scene, they
were informed by members of the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue that there was a partially dressed male
running from the 26th floor to the 20th floor, behaving erratically. Officers made their way to the 26th floor and heard
loud screaming and banging, which led them to the 20th floor. They then observed 34-year-old Alfredo Gonzalez of
Guttenberg, NJ, striking, pulling, and hanging on to a fire panel in a stairwell. Later, they also observed damage to walls
in the common areas of the apartment complex. Officers immediately prioritized Mr. Gonzalez’s health and well-being,
and monitored him until he was able to receive the appropriate medical assistance. As a result of this incident, Mr.
Gonzalez was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Following this call for service, the Guttenberg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau received
information pertaining to the damage Mr. Gonzalez caused throughout the property, which was estimated to be about
$3,921.66. As a result of this investigation, on October 28th, 2024, Mr. Gonzalez was charged with criminal mischief
[2C:17-3A(1)], a third-degree crime. Mr. Gonzalez was also charged with contempt of court [2C:29-9A], a fourth-degree
crime, as the result of a pre-trial release order prohibiting Mr. Gonzalez from engaging in any additional criminal activity
following his two previous arrests for numerous crimes. On November 5th, 2024, Mr. Gonzalez was arrested on the
active complaint warrant and transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing. Upon the
completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Gonzalez was issued his complaint warrant and lodged in the Hudson County
Correctional Center.
