Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces that Meghan Hornidge, 19- years-old, of River Edge, New Jersey was charged with Fourth Degree Abuse of a Child and Simple Assault, a Disorderly Persons Offense, following an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

On August 13, 2024, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office received a report that Meghan Hornridge had assaulted a two-year-old child at the Apple Montessori School in Wayne, New Jersey, where she was employed as a Teacher’s Aide. The Special Victims Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office conducted an investigation and determined that on August 12, 2024, Meghan Hornidge slammed and dragged a two-year-old in her care, causing the child to sustain bodily injury. Ms. Hornidge was subsequently charged via complaint summons.

The sentencing exposure on fourth degree Abuse of a Child is up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison and it is up to 60 days in county jail on disorderly persons Simple Assault. The matter has been referred to the Grand Jury.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite the accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, in a court of law.
