The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit has arrested a juvenile male in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Jersey City on Friday, October 11, 2024.
The male from Jersey City, who was 14 years old at the time of the shooting, is charged as a juvenile with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1)/2C:11-3a(2), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1), and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1). He was arrested on Bergen Avenue in Jersey City on Monday, October 21, 2024. Juvenile matters are confidential and no additional information can be released at this time.
Shortly before 5 p.m. on October 11, 2024, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Garfield Avenue and Brown Place. Responding officers located a male victim – later identified as Kashyne Grant, 19, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment, where he was pronounced dead just after 10 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the juvenile is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
