1. On November 14, 2024, at approximately 10:10 a.m., Police Officer Tyrone Huggins was driving on Monroe Street at Fifth Street when he saw a man carelessly operating a motorcycle. When the motorcycle improperly passed the patrol car, the officer pulled the driver over. As the officer was exiting his vehicle, the motorcyclist accelerated and began driving away. Officer Huggins followed the motorcycle until he was able to block him safely. The motorcyclist, later identified as 26-year-old Jesus Abreu-Ferrer of New York City, got off the bike. Police Officer Arturo Gonzalez arrived on the scene to assist. Abreu-Ferrer was arrested for eluding and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where it was learned the motorcycle had been reported stolen in New York City. He was issued a summons for unregistered vehicle, failure to show insurance, unlicensed driver, fictitious plates, and improper passing. Abreu-Ferrer was also charged with receiving stolen property, before being released from custody.
2. On November 15, 2024, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Police Officers Valentino Salgado and Jayden Gonzalez responded to the 1000 block of Bloomfield Street on reports of a vehicle that crashed into a building. When they arrived, multiple witnesses directed them to a car that had crashed into stairs, a railing, and an unoccupied parked vehicle. The driver, later identified as 38- year-old Margarita Echevarria of Union City, appeared to have slurred speech. Officers also observed her to be swaying and confused about what had happened. An on-scene investigation determined Echevarria had hit a total of four parked vehicles before crashing into the stairs and railing. The Hoboken Fire Department responded to check the stability of the building. Hoboken EMS/Voluntary Ambulance Corps also responded to check the driver and a passenger, who was transported to a local hospital. Police Officer Bianca Arroyo arrived on the scene to conduct a standardized field sobriety test, after which Echevarria was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where she refused to provide breath samples. She was issued summonses for refusal to provide a breath sample, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated. As per John’s Law, Echevarria was later released into the custody of a responsible party.
3. On November 15, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Police Officer Matthew Bonanno was on patrol around Fourth Street and Sinatra Drive, when he observed a car fail to stop at a stop sign. He pulled the car over and recognized the driver as 34-year-old Daniela Bayona Sanjuan of North Bergen. When he approached the vehicle, he detected the odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the car. Lt. Edward Sellick and Police Officers Ricky Truppner and Nicholas Valerius arrived on the scene. Sanjuan was given a field sobriety test, after which she was arrested for driving while intoxicated. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where she was processed on the driving while intoxicated charge and issued a summons for reckless driving, and failure to stop or yield. As per John’s Law, she was released into the custody of a responsible party.
4. On November 16, 2024, at approximately 4:20 a.m., Sgt. Michael Straten responded to the 400 block of 14th Street, on reports of a possible robbery. While investigating, Sgt. Straten observed a man wearing a full-face mask and a hat, using the flashlight on his phone and pointing it in the direction of officers, to possibly record them. A short time later, he saw the same individual placing his phone against the window of a parked patrol car, possibly to record a computer screen inside. The man, later identified as 38-year-old James Tucker of Hoboken, was asked to back away from the police vehicle. Tucker, who still had on the full mask concealing his face, pointed the phone and flashlight toward Sgt. Straten who asked him multiple times to back away. Tucker continued to insert himself between Sgt. Straten and the vehicle and ultimately swatted one of the officers' hands away. Based on those actions, Tucker was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct, but as he was being handcuffed, he pulled away and refused to place his hands behind his back. He continued to resist arrest. Sgt. Daniel Grossi arrived and assisted Sgt. Straten in placing Tucker under arrest. A search incident to arrest located a GoPro camera affixed to Tucker’s chest. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters he was further charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, obstructing the administration of the law, and resisting arrest.
5. On November 16, 2024, at approximately 7:21 p.m., Police Officers Aidan Gonzalez and Shyenna Vega responded to the 200 block of Adams Street, on reports of a verbal dispute. Sgt. Roary Miller, Sgt. Daniel Grossi and Police Officers Daniela Simone and John Lawton also responded. During an on-scene investigation, it was determined the resident of the unit where the argument took place, identified as 61-year-old Clinton Simpson of Hoboken, was wanted out of Jersey City in connection with a shoplifting. A warrant was confirmed, and Simpson was arrested. He was ultimately transported to the Jersey City Police Department for processing on the warrant.
6. On November 16, 2024, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Police Officers Aidan Gonzalez and John Lawton were waved down by a bystander on Observer Highway and Harrison Street, who told them a vehicle had been sitting in traffic for ten minutes without moving, with the driver appearing to be going in and out of consciousness. Officers approached the driver, later identified as 36-year-old Tyquan Chisolm of Jersey City and asked for his identification several times. Chisolm appeared confused and disoriented and had trouble locating his documents. Officers also observed his speech slurred and his yes to be bloodshot. Sgt. Daniel Grossi and Police Officers Nicholas Losurdo and Anthony Rutkowski arrived on the scene. A field sobriety test was conducted, after which Chisolm was arrested for driving under the influence. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was further charged with reckless driving and blocking the passage of other vehicles. As per John’s Law, he was released into the custody of a responsible party.
7. On November 17, 2024, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Police Officers Zackary Guido and Shyenna Vega were on patrol when they observed a car double parked on the 400 block of Monroe Street. They approached the vehicle and observed a man, later identified as 38-year-old Armando Lopez of Hoboken, sleeping in the driver seat. Officers woke Lopez up and asked him to exit the vehicle. As he did, officers observed him to have droopy eyelids, and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officers Aaron Font and Valentino Salgado responded to the scene. Officers could see a half empty bottle of Hennessy liquor in the center console of the car. Lopez refused to take a field sobriety test. He was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated, based on officer observations. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he refused to submit to chemical breath testing. He was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, open/unsealed container of alcohol, parking where prohibited, failure to consent to taking samples of breath, refusing to submit to a breath test, being an unlicensed driver. As per John’s Law, Lopez was released into the custody of a responsible party.
8. On November 17, 2024, at approximately 10:40 p.m., Sgt. Harold Milne and Police Officers Nicholas Protopapadakis, Valentino Salgado, Roberto Cuevas and Alyssa Rivera responded to 8th Street Tavern, 800 Washington Street, on reports that 30-year-old Brendan Wilson of North Bergen was there. Wilson was wanted by the Hoboken Police Department in connection to a case of aggravated assault on September 27, 2024. Police Officer Matthew Bonanno took that report after Wilson punched a male victim in the face several times, causing him to fall and suffer injuries that required treatment at a local hospital. A follow-up investigation by Officer Protopapadakis identified Wilson as the actor. On November 17, Wilson was arrested and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing on the aggravated assault charges. He was ultimately transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
9. On November 18, 2024, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Police Officers Ronald Kibitlewski and John Rodriguez were on patrol when they observed two people arguing outside of a taxi on the 300 block of Monroe Street. An on-scene investigation revealed a passenger, later identified as 27-year-old Ricard Ortiz-Cando of Union City, was refusing to pay the taxi driver the fare of $131 and it was determined he entered the taxi without intent or ability to pay. He was issued a summons for theft of services and taken to an area hospital for treatment, where he was released from police custody.
10. On November 18, 2024, at approximately 5 a.m., Police Officers Valentino Salgado and Anish Bhisey were on patrol when they observed a car parked in the crosswalk at the intersection of Fourth and Grand Streets. After activating lights and sirens multiple times, they approached the vehicle and found a man sleeping behind the wheel of a car. After multiple attempts, they woke the driver up and detected the odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. Police Officers Aaron Font and Zackary Guido arrived on the scene. Officers noticed the man, later identified as Manuel De La Rosa Porte, had watery and blood shot eyes. Officer Font conducted a field sobriety test, after which De La Rosa Porte was arrested for driving while intoxicated. A search of his vehicle located two orange pill bottles that did not have a prescription from a doctor, in the glove compartment. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and parked on the crosswalk. The pills were identified as a prescription legend drug, and he was further charged with possession of prescription legend drugs.
11. On November 18, 2024, at approximately 2:50 p.m., Police Officers Daniel Barron and Aidan Gonzalez, responded to Lululemon, 313 Washington St., on reports of a shoplifting where the actor had already fled the store with approximately $1,340 worth of merchandise. Upon arrival, they were told a woman who walked in with the male actor, was still in the dressing room. The woman, later identified as 43-year-old Marie Jean Hemlick of New York City, was found to have four pair of pants inside her backpack with the tags ripped off, along with four anti-theft sensors. She was placed under arrest and a search incident arrest located more antitheft sensors, the ripped tags, three wax folds, four packs of hypodermic needles, and three debit cards that did not belong to her. She was charged with shoplifting, conspiracy to commit shoplifting, possession of drug paraphernalia, and credit card theft. She was given a copy of the summons, and a notice to appear at headquarters for fingerprinting.
12. On November 18, 2024, at approximately 7;20 p.m., Police Officers Geovani Cruzado and Shawn Sodora responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting in which store security had detained the actor. Upon arrival, they learned that the actor, later identified as 63-year-old Gail Wells of Brooklyn, was seen putting multiple items in her cart, but only paid for some of those items upon check-out. She was stopped at the exit doors by security who confirmed she had approximately $94.73 worth of unpaid merchandise in her bags. She was arrested for shoplifting, transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed, and released with a summons.
13. On November 18, 2024, at approximately 10:55 p.m., Police Officer Aidan Gonzalez was waved down by a man on the 400 block of Washington Street, who said he saw someone rip open his neighbor’s package which was left on the stoop. The witness pointed out the actor, who was walking with a bicycle. Sgt. Michael Straten and Police Officers Domenick Allegretta and Shelby Seickendick arrived on the scene. They stopped the man who appeared apprehensive while answering questions and identified him as 35-year-old Christopher Vasquez of Jersey City. He was placed under arrest for package theft and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was processed. He was later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
14. On November 19, 2024, at approximately 2:50 a.m., Police Officers Ronald Kibitlewski and Aaron Font were conducting a building sweep of a Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) building on the 600 block of Sixth Street, when they came across a man who didn’t live in the building. The man, later identified as Eugene Ortiz, could not prove a legitimate reason for being on the property. He was arrested for defiant trespassing, and he became uncooperative. Police Officers Geovanni Cruzado and Anish Bhisey arrived on the scene. Ortiz was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. When officers attempted to place him in a cell and removed his handcuffs, he shoved one officer. Once in a cell, he kicked the door continuously. They were unable to fingerprint him. He was charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement, refusal to fingerprint, and defiant trespassing. Ortiz continued to scream, act erratically, and became physically combative with officers who were attempting to move him into a processing room. Once he was secured in the processing room, he became verbally abusive to the officers and repeatedly threatened physical violence against them.
15. On November 19, 2024, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Sgt. James Barbro and Police Officers Elias Colon and Teddy Santiago responded to the 500 block of Marshall Drive on reports of a man sleeping in the hallway of a building. They located the man, identified as 48-year-old Jeffrey Wheeler pf Hoboken, who did not live in the building, which is property of the Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA). He was issued a summons for defiant trespassing and released on the scene.
16. On November 19, 2024, at approximately 10:05 p.m., Police Officers Harry Montalvo and Christopher Soto responded to the 50 block of Park Avenue on reports of a suspicious person in the lobby. A building employee told officers the individual asked him for a package, but did not live in the building, and was asked to leave. Officers were given a description and photo of the actor, who they observed a short time later, while on patrol in the area of Third and Jackson Streets. They approached the man, later identified as 31-year-old Brandon Homere of Hillside, while he was on Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) property. He does not live there, so he was arrested for defiant trespassing. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing, where it was discovered, he had two outstanding warrants; one from Hillside and the other from Elizabeth. He was also charged with burglary and criminal attempted theft. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
17. On November 20, 2024, at approximately 1:55 p.m., Detective Luis Rodriguez and Police Officer Chelsea Tamborra processed the arrest of 25-year-old Jamaal Carr of Teaneck who came to Hoboken Police Headquarters. Carr was processed on a warrant from February 2022, for defiant trespassing and released with a new court date.
