Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of CHRISTOPHER J. GIGLIO, 34, of Staten Island, NY, on the charges of attempted sexual assault, luring, child endangerment, production of child sexual abuse material, and possession of child sexual abuse material. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.
On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit was notified by a local police department that a 12-year-old juvenile was in contact with an adult male via an online messaging application, and they were engaged in sexual conversations. The adult, who was only acquainted with the child through the Internet, appeared outside of the juvenile’s home on the evening of December 11, 2024. He fled the scene after the child’s parent observed his vehicle idling in front of the home. The parents contacted the local police, but the man fled before police arrived.
Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into the incident and the online activity that preceded it. Detectives identified CHRISTOPHER J. GIGLIO as the adult in question, and the investigation revealed that he instructed the child during sexually explicit online conversations to expose, photograph, and send nude photos of intimate body parts. An undercover detective from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit posing as the child continued the online chats with GIGLIO in the days ahead. During that time, sexualized conversation continued and GIGLIO made arrangements to meet the child on December 16, 2024, in Bergen County, NJ. When GIGLIO arrived to meet the child at the predetermined location, he was apprehended by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
As a result of the investigation, CHRISTOPHER J. GIGLIO was arrested and charged with first-degree production of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)(3); two counts of second-degree attempted sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1a(1) / N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(b); second-degree luring, N.J.S.A. 2C:13-6a; third-degree child endangerment, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1); and third-degree possession of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(b)(iii). GIGLIO was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
