One Dead and One Injured Following Fire at Passaic Residence
361 Madison Street, Passaic, NJ

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman and Passaic Fire Chief Patrick Trentacost announce that on December 31, 2024, at approximately 10:42 p.m., the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Investigations Unit received notification of a fatal fire at 361 Madison Street in the city of Passaic. The Passaic Fire Department extinguished the fire and determined the fire originated from a first-floor apartment. The body of a 50-year-old female was discovered. A second individual was transported to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Hospital in Livingston for treatment of injuries sustained during the fire. Identification of the deceased has not been confirmed at this time. All other residents of 361 Madison Street were evacuated until the structure is deemed safe to return.

This investigation is active and ongoing. More information will be released when it becomes available.
