Hoboken Police Arrest Blotter: December 5, 2024 to Decenber 11, 2024

1. On December 5, 2024, at approximately 2:55 a.m., Police Officers John Rodriguez and Nassir Willey responded to the 300 block of Washington Street on reports of an unhoused individual sleeping in the vestibule of a store. Officers approached the woman, later identified as 62-year-old Carol Maldonado of Hoboken, who had already been advised she could not sleep in vestibules and woke her up. She refused to give officers her information when asked and became irate and refused to cooperate. She was placed under arrest for defiant trespassing and resisted. Once handcuffed, she spat on and kicked one of the officers. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and processed on charges of criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, and throwing bodily fluids at law enforcement officers. She was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

2. On December 5, 2024, at approximately 5:20 a.m., Police Officers Aaron Font, Ronald Kibitlewski, Carmen Benitez, and David Chicara responded to the 900 block of Willow Avenue, on reports that a strange man was trying to enter someone else’s apartment. Officers located a man who fit the description of the actor standing on the basement stairs. Sgt. Michael Losurdo arrived on scene. The man, identified as 23-year-old Matthew Wingfield of Hoboken, was ordered out of the basement and issued a summons for disorderly conduct. He was released from custody on the scene and told if he knocked on other people’s doors again, he could be placed under arrest.

3. On December 4, 2024, at approximately 11:23 p.m., Police Officers Anthony Rutkowski and Marvin Dejesus responded to the Second Street Light Rail Station on reports of a possible overdose. Upon arrival they observed a man they could identify as 47-year-old Juan Jiminez of Hoboken and knew he was wanted on a warrant for burglary and theft in connection to a bicycle stolen in October. Police Officer Matthew Bonanno took the report on November 6, and a follow up investigation by Officer Rutkowski identified Jiminez as the actor. A search incident to arrest located a large heavy duty construction stapler and a razor blade carpenter’s knife, both of which can be used for forcible entry into residences. They also found two small silver keys, similar to mailbox keys, that were reported stolen from a building on the 400 block of Newark Street. In his bag, officers located several items of clothing with tags attached. He was additionally charged with being in possession of burglary tools. Jiminez was ultimately taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

4. On December 6, 2024, at approximately 2 a.m., Police Officer Anish Bhisey and Ronald Kibitlewski were conducting a check of a Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) building on the 300 block of Marshall Drive when they located a man, later identified as a 69-year-old Roberto Ortiz of Hoboken, in the seventh-floor stairwell. At first, he gave officers the wrong name and birthdate. It was discovered he did not live in the building, and he was arrested for defiant trespassing. A search incident to arrest located a broken clear cylindrical glass pipe, commonly used to smoke CDS. Sgt. Michael Losurdo arrived on the scene and recognized Ortiz, confirming his true identity. Ortiz was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and further charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and hindering. It was discovered he had a warrant out of Hoboken for trespassing and two warrants out of Hoboken for theft. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

5. On December 6, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Police Officers Enrico Gnassi and Domenick Allegretta responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting, where the store’s loss prevention team had detained the actor. Store security reported they’d seen the man, later identified as 59-year-old Jose Garcia-Tejada of Union City, try to leave the store without paying for a handful of items worth approximately $88.30. He was arrested, transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with shoplifting. After processing, he was released with a summons.

6. On December 7, 2024, at approximately 12 p.m., Police Officers Michael Chen and Nathaniel Arocho responded to the 400 block of Bloomfield Street on reports of a disorderly person who had smashed the windshield of a car. An on-scene investigation revealed a man, later identified as 50-year-old Cheuy Quintana of Hoboken, yelled at the driver and passenger of a vehicle that had stopped to let him cross in a crosswalk. He then pushed on the car before striking the windshield causing it to crack. Police Officer Tyrone Huggins located and identified Quintana on the 100 block of Washington Street. The victims confirmed he was the actor, and he was arrested. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with interference with traffic and criminal mischief. He was processed and ultimately transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

7. On December 7, 2024, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Police Officer Nicholas Protopapadakis and Joshua Campoverde were flagged down by a staff member of the Pig and Parrot, 77 Hudson St., who reported a customer had become disorderly and refused to leave. As they approached, officers observed a large group of people yelling and screaming at bar security. As officers attempted to diffuse the situation, one individual, later identified as 24-year-old Antonio Gil of Ridgefield, became particularly aggressive and yelled obscenities at officers and staff. Gil was advised to leave multiple times due to his disruptive behavior. Multiple other officers responded to assist. During that response, one officer fell to the ground, receiving minor injuries. Gil was arrested and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct, processed, and released with a summons.

8. On December 7, 2024, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Sgt. Michael Straten and Police Officers Arturo Gonzalez, Brandon Fitzgibbons, and Daniela Simone were patrolling on the 50 block of River Street when they observed a man, later identified as 22-year-old Francesco Gallicchio of Denville, pull his pants down while waiting in line at a bar, exposing himself to a number of other patrons, as well as the officers. He was issued a special complaint summons for lewdness and released on the scene with a court date.

9. On December 8, 2024, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Police Officer Alexander Miller was patrolling the area of Second and River Streets when he saw someone sitting in the vestibule of Citizens Bank, 221 River St. Hoboken Police have had numerous complaints for multiple businesses regarding trespassers using vestibules for reasons other than its intended purpose, so he approached the woman and explained she couldn’t sleep there. The woman gave a false name. Police Officers Andrias Bonilla, Rose Kanan, and John Lawton arrived on the scene to assist. She continued to refuse to give her real name and was placed under arrest for hindering and defiant trespassing. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where she was properly identified as 33-year-old Johanna Posada-Ramierz of Valhalla, New York. She was issued a summons and released without incident.

10. On December 9, 2024, at approximately 5:25 p.m., Sgt. Harold Milne, Detective Raymond Calderon, Detective Nicholas Protopapadakis, and Police Officers John Rodriguez, Christopher Barrel, Frank Losurdo, John Lawton, Remy Garcia-Marte responded to Lululemon, 313 Washington St., on reports of a potential shoplifting in progress with the actors in the fitting rooms. Officers located one of the actors, later identified as 44-year-old Faith Vanalstyne of Jersey City in the store. It was revealed one of her bags had five needles, two jagged cylindrical glass smoking pipes with burnt ends and copper wire, bits of tinfoil, a red fastening armband, pen pieces, one small black container containing CDS residue, one small green container containing suspected CDS crystal meth, two small yellow bags containing CDS residue, three small pink bags containing CDS residue, one small white bag containing CDS residue, and one small knotted white bag containing CDS residue. Another actor was later identified as 50-year-old Denny Bowers of New York City, and officers found an alarm sensor on his jacket. It was discovered he had a warrant out of Keansburg. A search incident to arrest located a large number of needles, an empty wax fold, mini containers for suspected CDS, and a small bag containing suspected crystal meth. Bowers was charged with possession of CDS and possession with intent to use. He was released from custody with a summons. Vandalstyne was charged with possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released from custody with a summons.

11. On December 10, 2024, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Police Officers Jaydan Gonzalez and Valentino Salgado were conducting a building sweep of a Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) building on the 400 block of Marshall Drive when they located two individuals, later identified as 43-year-old Elizabeth Torres of Union City and 50-year-old Kenneth Salazar of Union City, neither of whom lived in the building. Sgt. Harold Milne and Police Officers Nicholas Losurdo, Ricky Truppner, and Mark Mooreman arrived on the scene to assist. Torres and Salazar were arrested for defiant trespassing. Salazar was issued a summons and released on the scene. It was discovered Torres had a glass cylindrical pipe with burnt ends commonly used for CDS crack cocaine, when it fell out of her pocket, and she was additionally arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing and later taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

12. On December 11, 2024, at approximately 2:10 p.m., Sgt. James Barbro and Police Officers Bianca Arroyo and Teddy Santiago responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting where the actor was in custody of store security. Upon arrival they learned the actor, later identified as 29-year-old Michael Ferro of Jersey City, was seen placing 14 energy drinks and three containers of ice cream, worth a total of $90.76 into a bag and then attempting to walk out when security stopped him. Ferro rushed security officers in an attempt to get away, but he was unsuccessful. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, and it was learned he had two active warrants out of Jersey City and one out of Hudson County for burglary. He was charged with robbery and ultimately transported to the Hudson County Correctional facility.

13. On December 11, 2024, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Police Officers Enrico Gnassi and Shyenna Vega responded to Lola’s, 102 Sinatra Dr., on reports of a disorderly man inside the restaurant. An on-scene investigation revealed that the man, later identified as 46-year-old Elio Claros of Union City, was told he was too intoxicated to be served more alcohol and was asked to leave the bar, but he refused. Officers told Claros if he didn’t leave, he would be arrested for defiant trespassing. Claros continued to refuse and at one point, when asked by the officers to leave, he smacked away one of their hands and then pushed the officer in the chest. When officers tried to arrest him, he resisted by tensing his body and pulling his arms away from them. He continued to resist. Detectives Anthony Azzoline and Connor Milne arrived to assist, and they successfully handcuffed Claros who was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and defiant trespassing. The charges were placed on a summons and Claros was ultimately released from custody.
