Tyre R. Dunn
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 36-year-old TYRE R. DUNN of York, PA on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, armed burglary, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, resisting arrest, and obstruction. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.
On Monday, January 27, 2025, the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team countywide patrol units assisted the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Lodi Police Department during the arrest of TYRE R. DUNN, who was wanted in connection with a criminal investigation and pending charges filed in Pennsylvania. During his apprehension in Lodi, NJ, DUNN fled from law enforcement, armed himself with a pickaxe, and was barricaded inside of a shed attached to a private residence on Stokes Street in Lodi. Members of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team arrived on scene, called out to DUNN and instructed him to surrender. DUNN emerged from the shed swinging the pickaxe at multiple law enforcement personnel who were present, ultimately striking an FBI agent in the bulletproof vest. The blade on the axe did not penetrate the agent’s bulletproof vest and DUNN was subdued. He was taken into custody and transported by the FBI to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville, PA. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit were notified and initiated an investigation into the incident.
As a result of the investigation, on Friday, January 31, 2025, TYRE R. DUNN was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2/11-3a; first-degree armed burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2.1; two counts of second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2); third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d; third-degree resisting arrest, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-2a(3)(a); and fourth-degree obstructing the administration of law, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1a. DUNN was served with the charges while already detained at the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville, PA, where he remains in custody pending the outcome of the previous criminal charges from that jurisdiction.
Prosecutor Musella states that all the charges in this matter are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella would like to thank the Bergen County Regional S.W.A.T. Team, the FBI, and the Lodi Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
