On Friday, January 31, 2025, shortly after 6:00 p.m., the Jersey City Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in the vicinity of 1000 Newark Avenue in Jersey City. Upon arrival, members of the JCFD located and extinguished the fire.
Upon completion of fire suppression activities, firefighters found an unidentified male in a fire-damaged makeshift shelter. The male was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 6:49 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is actively investigating the origin and cause of the fire with assistance from the Jersey City Fire Department.
