
Members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit have arrested the driver involved in a Jersey City hit-and-run that seriously injured a bicyclist in 2024.
Dinesh Budhram, 26, of Jersey City, is charged with Assault by Auto (driving while intoxicated in a school zone) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(3)(a), a crime of the second degree; Assault by Auto in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(2), a crime of the third degree; Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1, a crime of the third degree; and Endangering an Injured Victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a, a crime of the third degree. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Thursday, March 6, 2025 and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
On Saturday, May 25, 2024, shortly before 5 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a bicyclist struck in the area of Garfield Avenue, Gates Avenue, and Seaview Avenue. Responding officers located a male bicyclist, later identified as a 21-year-old Bayonne resident, with life-threatening injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene. During the preliminary investigation, a vehicle and person of interest were identified.
The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
