Two Men Charged in Connection with Union City Homicide

Members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit have charged two men in connection with the death of a male in Union City on November 14, 2024.

Gerson Vasquez, 26, and Antonio Santiago-Jiminez, 34, both of Union City, are each charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1)/(2) and Endangering an Injured Victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a. Vasquez was arrested by members of the Homicide Unit in Perth Amboy on March 6, 2025. Santiago-Jiminez was arrested by members of the Union City Police Department on Bergenline Avenue in Union City on March 8, 2025. Both are being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

At approximately 11 a.m., on November 14, 2024, the Union City Police Department was notified of an unresponsive male behind a building on 23rd Street. Responding officers located a lifeless male – later identified as Reynaldo Gonzalez, 56 – and he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 11:30 a.m. On Wednesday, November 26, 2024, the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Complications of Blunt Force Injuries and the Manner to be Homicide. Following the Medical Examiner’s report, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit formally assumed control of the investigation.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
