Ringwood Man Charged with Sexual Assault and Child Endangerment

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces that Scott Volpe, 39-years-old, from Ringwood, New Jersey, was arrested in connection with a sexual assault investigation that was handled by the Special Victims Unit of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office. Scott Volpe is charged with one count of first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; two counts of second degree Sexual Assault; one count of third degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact; one count of fourth degree Criminal Sexual Contact; one count of third degree Hindering Apprehension; one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence; one count of first degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Manufacturing Child Pornography; one count of second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Sexual Conduct; and one count of third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Possession of Child Pornography.

On March 7, 2025, the Ringwood Police Department contacted the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office on a report of a child between the ages of 13 and 15 being sexually assaulted at a residence in West Milford between the months of January and February 2025. Based upon the investigation, Scott Volpe was identified and charged. On March 12, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m., members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office arrested Mr. Volpe in Ringwood, New Jersey without incident.

The sentencing exposure for Scott Volpe on first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault is 10 to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% of the sentence to be served before parole eligibility; on second degree Sexual Assault it is 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% of the sentence to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act; on first degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child it is 10 to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison; on second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child it is 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison; on third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, third degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact and third degree Hindering Apprehension it is 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison; and on fourth degree Criminal Sexual Contact and fourth degree Tampering with Physical Evidence it is up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention and is asking that Mr. Volpe be detained in County Jail pending the resolution of the case. The detention motion will be scheduled at a date and time to be determined by the Court.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
