


Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Montville Police Chief Andrew Caggiano announce an investigation into a body being discovered in Montville, New Jersey, and asks for the public’s help in identifying the deceased person.
On March 23, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., law enforcement was dispatched to the Passaic River near Route 46 in Montville on a report of a body observed by two fishermen. While searching the area, Montville Police officers located the body of a man. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Morris County Sheriff’s Office CSI responded, and the body was recovered from the water. The body was turned over to the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office. The deceased did not have identification on them.
The MCMEO determined that the deceased man is approximately 5 foot 7 inches in height, weighed 166 pounds, appears to be either Black or mixed race, and between 20 and 35-years-of-age. The deceased has two tattoos: the first being across the chest which reads “Toolie;” and the second on the lower left arm which reads “for those I love I will sacrifice.”
The cause and manner of death is pending determination by the MCMEO.
While the investigation remains ongoing, at this time, the cause of death is not suspected to be criminal. Scans of the body were negative for projectiles or foreign objects.
This is an ongoing joint investigation being conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Montville Police Department.
