Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of 30-year-old EDGAR HOLGUIN-REYES and 27-year-old YAKAYRA REYES, both of Reading, PA, for possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl pills. The arrests were the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.
During the course of a narcotics investigation, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force identified a vehicle that was involved with the transport and distribution of drugs. On Sunday, March 30, 2025, at approximately 6:35 p.m., with assistance from the Mahwah Police Department, the suspect vehicle was located and pulled over on I-287 in Mahwah, NJ. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force, along with members of the Mahwah Police Department, identified the occupants of the vehicle as EDGAR HOLGUIN-REYES and YAKAYRA REYES. Pursuant to a court-authorized search of the suspect vehicle, detectives discovered approximately 14,000 suspected fentanyl pills, which has an estimated street value of approximately $420,000.
As a result of the investigation, EDGAR HOLGUIN-REYES and YAKAYRA REYES were arrested and charged with second-degree possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl-laced pills, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5(b)4. EDGAR HOLGUIN-REYES and YAKAYRA REYES were remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella would like to thank the Mahwah Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
