Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 52-year-old JOSE G. SANCHEZ of Berryville, Virginia on charges of aggravated criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck; the Allendale Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael Dillon; and with the coordination and assistance of the Clark County (VA) Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Travis Sumption.
On Friday, March 21, 2025, the Allendale Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual abuse of a juvenile that had occurred in the past in Allendale, NJ. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allendale Police Department revealed that JOSE G. SANCHEZ sexually assaulted and endangered a juvenile under the age of 16 in Allendale, NJ in November 2024.
As a result of the investigation, on Monday, April 7, 2025, JOSE G. SANCHEZ was charged with third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3a; and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1).
On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Allendale Police Department, alongside members of the Clark County (VA) Sheriff’s Office, located and arrested SANCHEZ in Berryville, VA. SANCHEZ was placed in custody and remanded to the Clark County (VA) Jail, pending extradition to Bergen County, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Allendale Police Department for its assistance with this investigation and the Clark County (VA) Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and coordination in the apprehension of the defendant.
