On April 9, 2025 at 1:11 P.M., an employee of the Xchange apartment complex alerted a police officer assigned to the Secaucus Police Annex, located in the same complex, that a maintenance worker found a backpack near the 6000/8000 building on Riverside Station Boulevard. The police officer searched the abandoned backpack and discovered a Ruger .45 caliber handgun loaded with hollow point ammunition, including a round in the chamber, approximately ten ounces of suspected cocaine and over one pound of suspected marijuana.

The Secaucus Police Anti-Crime Unit immediately assumed control of the investigation and learned the Secaucus Police Department had responded to a call for service to an apartment at 6000 Riverside Station Boulevard in the early morning hours of April 8, 2025. During the course of the investigation, detectives determined the occupant of the unit, Josaih C. Agbo, discarded the backpack prior to officers arriving to his apartment. Agbo was arrested near his place of residence by members of the Anti-Crime Unit and Secaucus Police K-9 Unit shortly after 7 P.M. on April 9, 2025.

During a Court authorized search of Agbo’s apartment, detectives seized approximately two ounces of suspected cocaine, approximately four pounds of suspected marijuana, two “high-capacity” handgun magazines, 100 Xanax pills, over 200 pills of Oxycodone, over 80 pills of Adderall, along with over $22,700 in cash, which is believed to have been derived from nefarious activity. Additionally, 45 credit cards, which are suspected to be fraudulent were also seized.

A Court authorized search of Agbo’s Chevrolet Malibu was also conducted by Anti-Crime Unit detectives. During the search, over $2,700.00 in cash, over 290 pills of Oxycodone and over 60 pills adderall were seized.

“The proximity of our Police Annex at the Xchange complex allowed for an instantaneous response to this incident, but I am thankful that a child didn’t discover this loaded handgun first,” Chief Dennis Miller said. “I commend the detectives of the Anti-Crime Unit for their perseverance in discovering who discarded this handgun and drugs. The determination that members of the Secaucus Police Department possess to protect the residents of Secaucus and bring criminals to justice is what all law enforcement officers should aspire to emulate, and I am so proud to lead this organization. ”
