Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

Members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Secaucus Police Department have arrested a 59-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Secaucus on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Som Abrol, of Edison, has been charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1, a third-degree crime, and Endangering an Injured Victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a, a third-degree crime. Abrol was arrested on January 28, 2023 at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus. He was released pending his first court appearance which is tentatively scheduled for February 13, 2023.

On January 26, 2023 at approximately 6:40 a.m., the Secaucus Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Paul Amico Way and New County Road. A Secaucus Police Lieutenant was in the direct area of the crash and rendered aid to the female pedestrian. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene. The victim – later identified as a 49-year-old Jersey City woman - was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where she is being treated for her injuries and is in stable condition. During the initial investigation, the vehicle believed to have been involved in the collision was recovered.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Secaucus Police Department with the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
