Hoboken Police Arrest Blotter 7/06/23 - 7/12/23

1. On July 6, 2023, at approximately 12:55 p.m., Police Officers Jason Montalvo and Nathaniel Arocho responded to CVS, 59 Washington St., on reports of a shoplifting in which a man put items in a bag, threatened employees when they tried to stop him, and left without paying. It was later revealed the items taken totaled $529.69. Sgt. Wilfredo Gomez arrived on scene to assist with the investigation. A man fitting the description of the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Mario Henen of Jersey City, was spotted in Bayonne, and stopped by Bayonne Police Officer Mike Insalaco. Sgt. Gomez and Officer Arocho transported Henen from Bayonne to Hoboken Police Headquarters, where he was processed on charges of robbery, and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. During the arrest process CDS was located on his property, and Henen was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of CDS.

2. On July 6, 2023, at approximately 7:26 p.m., Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officer Jennifer Lee responded to Hudson Smokes, 22 Hudson Place, on reports of an attempted robbery. Store employees reported a man came in, grabbed a clerk, and left with a lighter that was worth 99 cents without paying. The investigation revealed that the same male was in the store the week prior and threatened the same clerk. Further investigation by Detectives Bret Globke, Vito Gigante, Conner Milne, and Fabian Quinones revealed the suspect to be 18-year-old Anthony John Diaz of Hoboken. Diaz was charged with robbery. On July 12, 2023, Detectives Quinones, Milne, and Mark Mullins, and Det. Sgt. William Collins observed Diaz near the intersection of Clinton and Second Streets, and he was placed under arrest. He was taken to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

3. On July 7, 2023, at approximately 3 a.m., Police Officers Marc Lombardi, Garcia Marte, Anthony Rutkowski, and Keven De L Cruz responded to Church Square Park, on reports of an unconscious woman being held upward by a man. Officers observed both the woman, and the man later identified as 30-year-old Cristian Alpizar of Jersey City, to be intoxicated. Alpizara was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Mercer County. He was charged with bail jumping.

4. On July 7, 2023, at approximately 11:17 p.m., Police Officers Harry Montalvo and Mark Mooreman observed a vehicle traveling on Paterson Street striking multiple cones that were set up at a construction site near the intersection with Harrison Street. The car then turned onto Harrison Street and stopped. The officers approached the vehicle and observed the driver, later identified as 57-year-old Julio Gutierrez-Marroqui of Union City, slurring his speech. They asked him for his license, registration, and insurance, which he could not provide. Sgt. Francis McCourt arrived on scene. Police Officer Brandon Fitzgibbons also arrived and conducted a field sobriety test, after which Gutierrez-Marroqui was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where Gutierrez-Marroqui vomited multiple times, was unsteady on his feet, and could not keep his head upward. A search of the vehicle for intoxicants produced a clear plastic container with pink liquid, believed to be an alcoholic beverage. Gutierrez-Marroqui was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving on a closed roadway, and having an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle. As per John’s law he was released into the custody of a responsible party.

5. On July 8, 2023, at approximately 2:58 a.m., Sgt. Roary Miller, and Police Officers Bianca Arroyo and Keven De La Cruz responded to the area of Fifth Street, between Park Avenue and Garden Street, on reports of a car accident, where the driver took off on foot. The investigation revealed that the vehicle involved in the crash, had been stolen by 22-year-old Eric Tripp of New Milford, who had gotten into a verbal and physical altercation with the owner near the intersection of Fifth and Wahington Streets, moments before the crash. Tripp jumped in the car during the fight and drove the car the wrong way down Fifth Street before crashing the vehicle and taking off on foot. Police Officers Anthony Rutkowski and David Chicara observed a man matching Tripp's description as provided by multiple witnesses, on the 800 block of Willow Avenue. Tripp was placed under arrest. Officers detected an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and observed he had watery eyes. Tripp was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he refused to provide breath samples. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, carjacking, robbery, unlawful taking of means of conveyance, criminal mischief, refusal to submit chemical breath samples, and simple assault. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

6. On July 8, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Police Officers Paul Quinn, Christopher Barrel, and Jennifer Lee responded to ResilienCity Park, 11th and Adams Streets, on reports of a woman ripping up flowers in the park and throwing them in the garbage. Officers saw multiple discarded plants in a trash can and holes in the rain gardens where the plants were supposed to be located. Officers observed a woman, later identified as 50-year-old Ann Marie Viehweger of Hoboken, who fit the description of the suspect near the 13th and Adams Street entrance to the park and observed her to be pulling plants out of the flower bed in that location. She provided false identification to the officers when first asked her name. She was placed under arrest, transported to Police Headquarters, and charged with obstructing the administration of the law and criminal mischief. She received a summons and was released from custody.

7. On July 9, 2023, at approximately 2:05 a.m., Police Officers Matthew Bonanno and Andrias Bonilla responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident, where the driver hit several parked cars, in the area of 88 Monroe St. Officers Jessica Pizanie and Christopher Soto, while on patrol on the 500 block of First Street, observed a woman matching a description of the driver given to police by the original caller. Det. Ryan Houghton and Police Officers Pizanie, Soto, and Christopher Barral stopped the woman, later identified as 25-year-old Meia Moore of Brooklyn. A field sobriety test was conducted, after which Moore was placed under arrest. A search of the area near the accident, located an empty bottle of alcohol and a plastic cup, which had remnants of suspected alcohol. Moore was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where she was charged with driving while intoxicated and issued summonses for leaving the scene of an accident, open container, reckless driving, and refusal to submit breath samples. As per John’s law, she was released into the custody of a responsible party.

8. On July 9, 2023, at approximately 3:03 a.m., Detective Ryan Houghton and Police Officer Christopher Barral were in the area of Newark and Washington Streets when they heard the excessive honking of a horn on a Jeep that was driving on Newark Street. The horn continued to blare for about one minute. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop and asked the driver, later identified as 24-year-old Robert Grigg of Hoboken. When asked for his documents, Grigg appeared to be slow moving and to be having difficulty with hand/eye coordination. He did not have a driver's license. Detective Houghton observed that Grigg had glossy and blood shot eyes and asked him to exit the car. Officer Andrias Bonilla arrived on scene to conduct a field sobriety test, after which Grigg was placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was processed and issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, improper use of a horn, driving without a license, and reckless driving. As per John’s law he was released into the custody of a responsible party.

9. On July 9, 2023, at approximately 8:13 p.m., Police Officers James Barbro and Nick Valerius responded to the area of Observer Highway and Park Avenue on reports of a person falling off a motorcycle. When they arrived, they found the vehicle was actually a gas powered moped, which the driver, 23-year-old Asadbek Aminjonov of Jersey City, did not have registration or insurance for. Further investigation found the vehicle he had purchased had been stolen out of New York State. He was placed under arrest for receiving stolen property and released with a court date. 10. On July 10, 2023, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Police Officers Anthony Olivera and Jesse Castellano responded to a building on the 600 block of Washington Street on reports of a man aggressively banging on the front door. When they arrived, they approached the suspect, 38- year-old Edgar Agramonte of Union City, who claimed he was renting a unit in the basement. Agramonte was found to have a warrant out of Jersey City for criminal mischief, and another out of Chester for driving with a suspended license. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, where he was picked up by Jersey City Police on the warrant. *The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty in a court of law.*
