Hoboken Police Arrest Blotter 6/08/23 - 6/14/23

On June 8, 2023, at approximately 6:42 p.m., Police Officers Harry Montalvo and Paul Quinn responded to the Weehawken Police Department to pick up 29-year-old Carlos Harris of Weehawken who had an active warrant out of Hoboken issued in July of 2021. He was brought to Hoboken Police Headquarters and processed on simple assault charges. Harris was released with a new court date.

On June 9, 2023, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Police Officer Anthony Hochstadter responded to Hoboken Police Headquarters to process the arrest of 31-year-old Leonard Paul of Elizabeth, after he was brought in by Elizabeth Police. He was processed on an outstanding warrant for a traffic offense out of Hoboken, along with warrants out of Highland Park and Edison. He was released with new court dates for each case.

On June 9, 2023, at approximately 2:50 p.m., Police Officers Arturo Gonzalez, and Jonathan Figueroa responded to the 1200 Block of Bloomfield Street, on reports that a man had assaulted four different women while walking on the street. The officers, with assistance from Lt. Keith Rotondi, Police Officers Dylan Archilla, and Marco Grossman, and bystanders were able to track down the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Tashae Castillo of Hoboken, and arrest him. While being removed from a patrol car at Police Headquarters, Castillo kicked the door of a patrol car, causing the door to hit one of the officers. He was charged with simple assault and aggravated assault against a police office and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On June 9, 2023, at approximately 5:53 p.m., Police Officers Damien Bates and David Chicara responded to Walgreens, 101 Washington St., on reports of a shoplifter. Investigation found that 38-year-old Christopher Johnson of Jersey City put items amounting to $510.70 in a bag and tried to exit the store without paying. Employees blocked the exit until officers arrived. Johnson was charged with shoplifting and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On June 10, 2023, at approximately 12:15 p.m. Lt. David Olivera and Police Officers Jason Montalvo, Nick Valerius, and Harold Milne responded to Harborside Park, 1501 Park Ave., on reports of a man masturbating on a park bench with children nearby. Some of the officers also observed this activity as they approached the area. They arrested 26-year-old Jethro Sylverne of Phillipsburg, brought him to police headquarters, and charged him with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and lewdness. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On June 10, 2023, just before 7 p.m., Police Officers Ricky Truppner and Nick Valerius responded to the bus stop on Observer Highway next to the Valero Gas Station, on reports of an assault. Investigation revealed the suspect, later identified as 60-year-old Kenneth Harvin of Jersey City, had made erratic statements toward a woman at the bus stop, and then tapped her on the head with his hand. Officers located Harvin who they observed speaking erratically. Harvin was found to have a warrant out of Hoboken for simple assault. He was arrested, transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, and processed on the warrant. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On June 11, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Police Officers Anthony Rutkowski and Frank Lombardo were patrolling the area of 12th and Hudson Streets when they observed a car cross the double yellow line on Hudson Street, and then drive through a red light at the intersection of Hudson and 14th Streets. When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle with lights and sirens, the car kept going at one point driving through a stop sign without stopping or slowing down. The car eventually stopped near 1500 Washington St. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Diana Noriega of Orange. Officers observed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. A field sobriety test was administered, after which, she was placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. A search of her car located a half empty bottle of tequila. A 17-year-old juvenile was in the front passenger seat. Noriega was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, failure to observe a traffic signal, failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving, and having an open container in a motor vehicle. As per John’s Law, she was later released into the custody of a responsible party.

On June 11, 2023, at approximately 8:10 p.m., Police Officers Joshua Campoverde and Anthony Azzoline responded to Walgreens, 101 Washington St., on reports of a male who would not leave the establishment. Officers Ricky Truppner and Rose Kanan also responded. Store employees said a man became irate and started yelling at them when he was told the Western Union terminal was out of order. The man then told employees he would “come back and shoot up the place.” While the investigation was ongoing, the suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Darryl Jacobs of Jersey City, came back into the store. He was arrested for making terroristic threats and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was found to have multiple warrants from the Hudson County Sheriff's Office for contempt of court, drug related offenses, and shoplifting. He was processed on all charges and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On June 12, 2023, at approximately 7:25 p.m. Police Officers Paul Quinn and Nicholas Losurdo observed a gas-powered moped driving on Willow Avenue without visible registration. They also saw the moped drive through a stop sign without stopping. The Officers pulled over the driver, identified as 18-year-old Ahmed Abdelrahman of Jersey City, and it was discovered the moped was reported stolen out of New York on March 30, 2023. Abdelraham was arrested and taken to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was charged with receiving stolen property. He was issued a summons for driving an unregistered vehicle, not having insurance coverage, and failure to stop, and released from custody.

On June 13, 2023, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Police Officers Joshua Campoverde, Jessica Pizanie, and Dylan Archilla responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting. When they arrived, the suspect had already left. Officers were told the suspect was seen putting items in a backpack, then pushed an employee who tried to stop him, and then left the store without paying. Police Officers Anthony Olivera and Anthony Azzoline were canvassing the area nearby and observed a man, later identified as 56-year-old Angelo Gomez of Hoboken, who fit the suspect description near the Ninth Street Light Rail station. They arrested Gomez and transported him to police headquarters. He was found to be in possession of multiple stolen items, charged with robbery, and remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On June 14, 2023, at approximately 5:18 p.m., Police Officers Daniel Grossi and Daniel Barron were on routine patrol when they observed a man, identified as 55-year-old Willie Fredericks of Hoboken, who fit the suspect description in an earlier theft. The stolen property was not found on Fredericks, but he was found to have an outstanding warrant for criminal mischief out of Hoboken. A search incident to arrest found a glass cylindrical pipe containing a brown residue, suspected to be CDS crack-cocaine. He was brought to Hoboken Police Headquarters, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and transferred to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. Fredericks was also charged with theft in connection with a May 30, 2023, report of a stolen package from a residence on Bloomfield Street originally investigated by Det. Tyler Soto who identified Fredericks as the actor in that case.

On June 14th, 2023, at approximately, 9:48 p.m., Police Officers Christopher Barral and Mark Mooreman responded to the 200 block of Bloomfield Street on reports of a person trying to get into a building she did not live in. When they arrived, they observed a female, identified as 57- year-old Joy Robertson of Jersey City, sitting on the stairs. It was learned that she never tried to enter the building. Officers found she had a warrant out of Bayonne for burglary. Robertson was arrested, charged with bail jumping, and released with a new court date.
