Hoboken Police Arrest Blotter 4/13/23 - 4/19/23

1. On April 14, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Police Officers Daniel Grossi and Daniel Barron observed another vehicle tailgating theirs on Clinton Street. As the officers approached Sixth Street, the other driver, later identified as 28-year-old Marquis Staggers of Jersey City, made a quick left turn, and drove away at a high rate of speed. The officers conducted a traffic stop on Adams Street and detected an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Staggers’ breath. Officers conducted a series of standardized field sobriety tests after which Staggers was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Staggers was found to have a suspended license and two outstanding warrants; one for simple assault out of Jersey City and another for motor vehicle infractions in Secaucus. He was transported to the Jersey City Police Department for processing and was given a new court date in Secaucus. He was also issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and driving with a suspended driver's license.

2. On April 14, 2023, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Detectives Ryan Houghton and Bret Globke observed 29-year-old Andrew Mullins of Hoboken, standing on the steps of 314 Harrison St. Mullins was known to have several outstanding warrants. As officers attempted to approach Mullins, two large pit bulls lunged toward them while barking. Officers retreated but were eventually able to safely reach Mullins and arrest him. A secondary search found Mullins to be in possession of brass knuckles. He was transported to Police Headquarters, charged with possession of prohibited weapons and devices, and processed on a warrant out of Bayonne for aggravated assault. He was also found to have another open warrant out of Hoboken. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

3. On April 14, 2023, at approximately 5:40 p.m., Detectives Michael Losurdo and Tyler Soto observed 33-year-old Jonathan G. Walker of Hoboken standing on the corner of Fifth and Jackson Streets. Walker was known to have outstanding warrants and was placed under arrest. He was found to have a warrant out of Jersey City for shoplifting and Hudson County Superior Court for criminal mischief. Walker was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

4. On April 14, 2023, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Police Officers Anthony Azzoline and Daniel Grossi responded to the area of 314 Harrison St. where Sergeant Francis “Duke” McCourt had observed a male identified as 20-year-old Angel Sanabria Jr. of Hoboken who was known to be wanted on an outstanding warrant out of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office on March 21, 2023. Sanabria fled on foot and additional officers joined in a search for the suspect who was eventually found hiding in the bushes behind the 2nd Street Light Rail pay station. He was placed under arrest, charged with resisting arrest, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility on the warrant.

5. On April 15, 2023, at approximately 3:05 a.m., Police Officers Enrico Gnassi and Michael Straten while on patrol near 102 Washington St., observed two women, later identified as 29- year-old Ashanti Parker of Prospect Park and 30-year-old Yulissa Pilier of Paterson, actively fighting on the ground. As the officers separated them, the suspects continued to fight. Parker and Pilier were both arrested and issued summonses for simple assault and disorderly conduct. Use of force reports were generated.

6.On April 15, 2023, at approximately 12:00 p.m. Police Officers Roberto Cuevas and Keven De La Cruz responded to Chipotle at 229 Washington St. where a woman, later identified as 34- year-old Alicia Hurtado of Hoboken, unprovoked, purposely hit a bowl of food into another woman’s lap. The victim filed a criminal complaint and Hurtado was charged with Harassment.

7. On April 15, 2023, at approximately 8 p.m., Police Officers Ricky Truppner and Nathaniel Arocho responded to the area of Sixth and Hudson Streets on reports of an Uber driver being assaulted by a passenger. The driver told officers that his two backseat passengers had become upset when the driver rolled down the window. When the driver told the passengers to exit the vehicle the male passenger, later identified as 69-year-old Thomas McCarr of Jersey City, struck the driver in the back of his neck with his cane. He then exited the car and hit a window and hood with his cane. McCarr was transported to Police Headquarters and charged with aggravated assault, criminal mischief, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. The charges were placed on a summons, and he was released.

8. On April 16, 2023, at approximately 3:23 p.m., Police Officers Michael Straten, Enrico Gnassi, Nicholas Protopapadakis, Christopher Soto, Arron Font, and Cynthia Rivera were in the area of 89 Washington St. due to a high volume of people gathered and observed two people, later identified as 19-year-old Kevin Carmichael and 21-year–old Steven Prado, both of Paramus, fighting. While attempting to separate the men, some of the officers fell along with Prado. Prado and Carmichael were arrested and charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct. They were released on summonses. Use of Force reports were generated.

9. On April 17, 2023, while conducting a follow-up investigation into a fight that took place in the 500 block of Marshall Drive, Detective Fabian Quinones issued summonses for disorderly conduct to 22-year-old Xavier Borges, 23-year-old Keshon Crandel, 22-year-old Jamil Rivera, 35-year-old Deon Walker, and 33-year-old Jonathan Walker all of Hoboken.

10. On April 18, 2023, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Police Officers Jesse Castellano and Jason Montalvo responded to the area of 114 Madison St. on reports of a man sleeping on the stoop. A second caller reported a man of a similar description pulling on building doors. The officers observed a person fitting the description at the Prime Place Convenience Store, 514 First St., and then observed the man, later identified as 48-year-old Kenneth Salazar of Union City, try to get into one residential building, before forcefully opening the door of another on Madison Street. When approached by officers, Salazar falsely claimed to be staying with a friend in the building and gave a fake name and address for himself. Salazar was transported to Police Headquarters for processing and became verbally aggressive. He was found to have two active warrants out of Hoboken and Hudson County. He was charged with criminal trespass, hindering apprehension, obstructing the administration of law, and transferred to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

11. On April 18, 2023, at approximately 4:42 p.m., Police Officers Paul Quinn and Christopher Barral were patrolling the area of Harrison and Third Streets when they observed a man go into a gated area of the Hoboken Housing Authority. When officers approached the male, who they did not recognize as a resident, he ran from officers who began to chase him on foot. Detectives Connor Milne and Ryan Houghton joined the chase. Officers eventually caught up with the man, later identified as 19-year-old Luis Tamat of West New York. A search incident to arrest found drug paraphernalia in the form of a plastic bag containing lose copper mesh. Tamat was transported to Police Headquarters and charged with loitering to commit a CDS offense, defiant trespassing, obstructing the administration of law, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and hindering apprehension. He was transported to Hudson County Correctional Facility.

12. On April 19, 2023, at approximately 12:22 a.m., Police Officers Jessica Pizanie and Teddy Santiago responded to Passaic Police Department to take custody of 34-year-old Ishita Gohel of Vernon. Gohel had several active warrants including one for simple assault out of Hoboken issued on February 22, 2023. She was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

13. On April 19, 2023, at approximately 12:37 a.m., Police Officers Marc Lombardi and Remy Garcia-Marte responded to the W Hotel, 225 River St., to take a report related to an earlier fight at the hotel. During the investigation, another fight broke out. It was learned that 59-year-old Andrew Epstein of Manalapan was the aggressor causing injuries to two victims. Epstein was arrested, charged with aggravated assault, and released on a summons.

14. On April 19, 2023, at approximately 10:31 p.m., 22-year-old Jalene Borges of Hoboken was arrested on the theft of a motor vehicle warrant issued on April 7, 2023, on which date a stolen car was involved in an accident. Police received information which led to probable cause to charge Borges with theft. She was processed and released.
