Hoboken Police Arrest Blotter 4/06/23 - 4/12/23

1. On April 7, 2023, around 3:30 a.m., Police Officers Brandon Fitzgibbons and Kyle Seper responded to the intersection of Sixth and Madison Streets on reports of a man asleep at the wheel of his car, which was stopped in the middle of the street. Officer Nicholas Protopapadakis, already on the scene, reported that the driver, identified as 30-year-old Ryan Doll of Lyndhurst, was in the vehicle, which was still in drive, with his head tilted back and unresponsive. The officers woke Doll up, had him put the car in park, and shut it off. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Doll’s breath, and he was making incoherent statements. He admitted to having “a few beers,” and was given a series of standardized field sobriety tests, after which he was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. A search of Doll’s vehicle found three empty beer cans and 64 orange pills believed to be amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, commonly known as "Adderall" in a clear plastic bag. Doll was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing and additionally charged with possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, open alcoholic containers in a motor vehicle, and refusal to submit to chemical breath test. As per John’s Law, Doll was released into the custody of a responsible party.

2. On April 8, 2023, just after 4:00 a.m., Police Officers Jessie Castellano and Jason Montalvo responded to the intersection of Third Street and Willow Avenue where Officer Jessica Pizanie had observed a car stopped at the intersection with the driver, later identified as 26-year-old Serrick Preston of Texas, asleep at the wheel. Officer Pizanie woke the male driver, and his female passenger who was also asleep. Preston was asked to turn off the engine, which he did. Following a series of standardized field sobriety tests, Preston was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was processed and additionally issued summonses for reckless driving and refusal to submit a chemical breath test.

3. On April 10th, 2023, approximately 8:47 a.m., Police Officers Arturo Gonzalez and Geovanni Cruzado responded to a Hoboken Housing Authority building at 314 Harrison St. where the building manager reported noises coming from inside what was supposed to be a vacant apartment. After officers knocked on the door several times to no avail, they forced open the chained door. During a search, officers found 33-year-old Nancy Flores of West New York and 50-year-old Julius Walker who has no known address. Officers also found drug paraphernalia and suspected CDS in the apartment which had been damaged by Flores and Walker. Both were charged with burglary, criminal mischief, possession of a CDS/heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia and were remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

4. On April 10, 2023, at approximately 4:08 pm., Police Officers Christopher Soto and Kyle Seper responded to 300 Madison St. on reports of an erratic and possibly intoxicated man, yelling at people inside Madison Street Park. Upon arrival they saw a male, later identified as 43- year-old Gregory Almonte of North Bergen walking in the middle of the street, speaking loudly to himself, and acting disoriented. The suspect told police his name was Isaac, Son of Abraham. He had a partially open suitcase with him, in which officers saw drug paraphernalia. Lamonte was charged with hindering apprehension and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia. Hoboken Volunteer EMS transported Almonte to Hoboken University Medical Center where he was treated and cleared for incarceration. He was then transported to Police Headquarters where Almonte became unruly and uncooperative, and resisted officers in an aggressive manner forcing officers to place him in a compliance hold. A use of force report was generated. Almonte\was also processed on an existing warrant from March 14, 2023, out of Hoboken and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

5. On April 10, 2023, at about 8:30 p.m., Police Officer Christopher Barral pulled over a white 2011 Jaguar near 1 Newark St., after learning the registered owner, identified as 46-year-old Reynaldo Carpio of Jersey City, had a suspended license and was wanted for two outstanding warrants from Jersey City and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office. Carpio, who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop, was arrested, charged on those two warrants, and picked up by Hudson County Sheriff’s officers. The driver, 47-year-old Christina Provenzano of Jersey City, was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license and driving without a license. She was also found to have an outstanding warrant from Rochelle Park. Provenzano was given a new court date on the Rochelle Park warrant and released on scene.

6. On April 11, 2023, at approximately 6:40 p.m., all working Hoboken Police units were dispatched to 510 Jackson St. on reports of a fight and possibly a handgun being brandished. When the officers arrived, they saw a large crowd gathering outside. A female, later identified as 37-year-old Melissa Walker of Hoboken, was observed to be in a verbal argument with another female whom they then witnessed Walker punch in the face multiple times. As officers were pulling the women apart and attempting to arrest Walker, a male, identified as 42-year-old Ricky Walker of Hoboken, was pulling officers off Melissa Walker. Ricky Walker and Melissa Walker were both placed under arrest. The victim refused medical attention. Because of a large crowd gathering, mutual aid was requested to assist with crowd control. Ricky Walker was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was processed on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Melissa Walker was transported to Hoboken University Medical Center by Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps after feeling faint. After an evaluation she was brought to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault. Both were issued summonses on all charges and released from police custody.

7. On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at approximately 7:48 p.m., Police Officers Jennifer Lee and Frank Francolino responded to the area of Ninth Street and Castle Point Terrace on reports of a motor vehicle accident with multiple vehicles struck. Upon arrival, officers saw a black Acura stopped in the middle of the street with heavy damage and the ignition still on. They also saw multiple parked cars with damage. Along with Detectives Tyler Soto and Michael Losurdo, the officers approached the vehicle and asked the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Adam Nasser of Bloomfield, to step out. A series of field sobriety tests were conducted, after which Nasser was told he was being placed under arrest. He began to resist arrest by punching and kicking officers. Officers were able to gain control of Nasser and put him under arrest. He was charged and processed with driving under the influence, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and obstruction and transported to Hudson County Correction County Facility. Officers were treated on scene by the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Use of force reports were completed.

8. On April 12, 2023, around 9:50 a.m. Detective Michael Losurdo recognized 36-year-old Christopher Rosado of Jersey City near 320 Marshall Dr. as having an active warrant for shoplifting at ShopRite, 900 Madison St. on April 10, 2023. Detective Losurdo, along with Police Officers Jessica Pizanie and Frank Lombardo, approached Rosado and attempted to place him under arrest. Rosado became agitated, disregarded commands, and at one point fell to the ground, on top of Officer Pizanie. Other officers arrived to assist in the arrest. During a search incident to arrest, drug paraphernalia and CDS were found. While at Hoboken University Medical Center for evaluation, Rosado had to be restrained by medical staff. Rosado was transported to police headquarters where he was arrested, processed, and charged with robbery, possession of CDS/crack-cocaine, possession of CDS/Phencyclidine 2, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest. He was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. Use of force and officer injury reports were generated during this incident.

9. On April 12, 2023, at approximately 5 p.m., Sergeant Edward Sellick and Police Officers Harold Milne, Jessica Areballo, and Damien Bates responded to the area of Fifth and Washington Streets. When they arrived, they found the caller following two adult males whom the juvenile suspected stole his wallet out of his backpack while he was playing basketball at Church Square Park. The juvenile victim called police to assist after he used his phone to track transactions being made with his personal accounts. When officers arrived, the juvenile saw the suspects exiting the Ifix Hoboken store located at 421 Washington St. Officers stopped the two men and asked if they had a wallet that didn’t belong to them. One of the men, who first gave false information, but was later identified as 23-year-old Walter Barajas-Silva of Brooklyn, NY handed over the victim’s wallet claiming he found it in the park. He was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, theft of a mislaid credit card, theft of mislaid property, hindering apprehension, and a disorderly person's offense. Barajas-Silva was found to have an active failure to appear warrant from Secaucus. He was processed and transported to the Hudson County Correctional facility.

10. On April 12, 2023, at 9:36 a.m., Police Officers Daniel Grossi and Daniel Barron observed 18-year-old Tahjmir Mitchell of Hoboken walking on the 300 block of Marshall Drive. Mitchell was known to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Hoboken. The officers placed Mitchell in handcuffs, searched him for incident to arrest and transported him to Police Headquarters where he was charged with simple assault in relation to a warrant issued on December 27, 2022. A family member paid his bail, and Mitchell was issued a court date.
